Our Mission

Our mission is to rescue abandoned, abused and neglected dogs and cats, and provide them with medical care, proper nutrition and a safe living environment, until a loving, permanent home can be found.

We also focus on educating children and families on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets, providing proper nutrition and veterinary care, as well as heartworm prevention.

Our Team

Cameo Bua-Clements — FOUNDER / President

Cameo is the founder of Paw Huggers and an avid animal lover with many of her own. Cameo grew up on a farm so she attributes that to her love of animals. She has cats, dogs, chickens and a mini potbellied pig. Cameo attended Vet Tech Institute, graduating on the dean’s list and worked as a vet tech at a low cost clinic for a year after graduating. Unfortunately the pay was too low, so she went back in to the oilfield. She continues to follow her passion of working with animals by rescuing as many as she can. Because of Cameo’s training, she likes to take on the medical rescues that most can’t deal with at home. She also loves her special needs babies and currently has a 2 legged dog - Mister Tyson 2 Paws, a dog with scoliosis – Moby, a puppy born without both paws & part of her tibia & fibula in one leg - Scarlett, a 3 legged cat – Abbott, and a kitten with cerebellar hypoplasia – Orion.

Debbie Norris – CFO

Debbie is Cameo’s mother, who is now retired and lives on the same property so she has become more involved with rescue work. She has always admired what Cameo does but never had the time before. With 3 dogs of her own, and years of accounting experience from her previous career, Debbie is a great asset to Paw Huggers by helping keep all of our books straight. She has been thrown in to the crazy world of rescue with Cameo constantly bringing furbabies home, and though it is often difficult to watch them leave, she knows it opens up the door to save another one.

Stacey Smith – Vice President

Stacey has lived in the Houston area since 1992 but has been doing independent rescues since she was a young girl in Indiana. She saw the great need for more people to step up and help the abused, neglected and unwanted pets in our city and made the choice to get involved. She has fostered for several groups as well as being a foster coordinator, handling events & fundraising and feeding homeless pets on the streets. While she fostered for one of these groups she met Cameo when she was a vet tech. The two began street feeding together and formed a long lasting friendship. She has 4 dogs of her own and 1 cat, and always has many fosters in her care. She is very passionate about doing what she can to make a difference for the animals and to teach awareness to others about the importance of spay and neuter and proper veterinary care of their pets.
